Early this week, I visited NYC for a day to meet up with a friend and visit some new art exhibits! A lot of the exhibits didn’t allow photography so the photos that I ended up taking were these series of landscape that I witnessed on the bus ride back home. Only after I started capturing these passing visions, I realized that I haven’t taken any photos in the city.

Less than an hour out of the cluttered city, there were these landscapes just waiting for my viewing—an excellent exhibit with free admissions! Through the textured window, the photograph turns into an oil on canvas. After navigating around the bustling city all day, it’s quite a spiritual experience just listening to relaxing music while watching these minimalist landscapes pass by and melt into darkness.

Exhibition Recommendation : Joan Mitchell: An American Master

This weekend I finally got to visit the Joan Mitchell exhibit at Lehigh University’s Zoellner Main Gallery. It was an absolute pleasure to closely examine Mitchell’s works of heavenly gestural abstractions! All of the featured drawings, color lithographs, etchings, and paintings clearly capture the artist’s expressive style and powerful vision. I can live in a Mitchell for days!

Although I didn’t get to take any photographs of the artworks within the gallery space, I was so happy to spend time with the artworks in person and to bring back different posters with me. Joan Mitchell is a rock star & this exhibit is definitely one of the best exhibit I’ve visited in years!

It has already been a year and I just came back from the reception of Georgetown University’s Senior Art Majors’ Exhibition 2013. It was great to catch up with friends, professors, and senior art majors, and to see their artworks! Congratulations to the graduating senior art majors on their artistic achievements! If you missed tonight’s opening reception and would like to see the artworks, the exhibit will be on display until Friday, May 17th, 2013.

Exhibition Recommendation : Over, Under, Next: Experiments in Mixed Media, 1913–Present

Here’s a lovely artwork that I saw on Earth Day at Hirshhorn’s interesting new exhibit. Stan Brakhage’s Mothlight is a silent collage film. Without a camera, the artist produced the film using collected moth wings, flower petals, and blades of grass, and pressed them between two clear strips of 35mm mylar film. The thin and translucent objects are passed through an optical printer to create a series of earthy, beautiful images!

I met three fantastic Mitchells in one day and that makes me happy! These are from Washington, DC’s National Museum of Women in the Arts and National Gallery of Art. I’m also planning to make a trip to the Joan Mitchell exhibit in Lehigh University’s Zoellner Gallery. I can never see enough Mitchells!

Today I went to see Georgetown University’s Superfood, Chimes, Gracenotes, Capitol G’s and Brown University’s Jabberwocks perform for the a cappella concert titled Spring Sing. It was absolutely amazing to hear energetic a cappella songs beautifully fill up Gaston Hall during sunset!
